Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Bill Miller of Texarkana as judge of the 5th Judicial District Court in Bowie and Cass counties for a term to expire at the 2016 general election.

Miller is an attorney and partner at Greer and Miller in Texarkana, Ward 5 councilman for the City of Texarkana, and a member of the Texarkana Intergovernmental Advisory Committee. He is chairman of the State Bar of Texas Law Practice Management Committee and a past member of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors. He is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and American and Arkansas Bar associations, and past Texas delegate to the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates. He is also a member and past secretary of the Texarkana Bar Association and past president, past chairman and past director of the Texas Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors. He is a member of the Texarkana Soccer Association Board of Directors and St. James Day School Board of Trustees, and counsel to the St. James Episcopal Church Vestry. He is also a past legal fundraising coordinator for the United Way of Greater Texarkana and past member of the Texarkana Museums Systems Board of Directors and the Literacy Council of Bowie and Miller Counties Inc. Board of Directors.

Miller received a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law.
