I am Board Certified in Criminal law, have served as both a defense attorney and prosecutor, and am also a seasoned civil litigator. During my 15-year career I represented over 150 clients facing trial by courts-martial on charges ranging from money laundering, international drug smuggling, and forgery to rape, child pornography, and sexual assault of a child. I was also certified by the United States Naval Justice School to defend death penalty cases.

In my current position as an Assistant District Attorney, I regularly handle all aspects of criminal practice including jury trials on charges ranging from murder to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During my career, I have tried over 35 jury trials, including aggravated sexual assault of a child and 4 attempted capital murder trials.

I have worked as both a Research Attorney and Law Clerk at the Court of Criminal Appeals (the highest criminal appellate court in Texas) where I drafted majority and en banc opinions on Petitions for Discretionary Review and drafted direct death penalty opinions. As an Assistant District Attorney, I have also authored direct and interlocutory appeals and argued before both the Third and Thirteenth Courts of Appeals.

During my 5 years practicing civil litigation in the Civil Medicaid Fraud Division of the Texas Attorney General’s Office I was responsible for all aspects of investigation and litigation including drafting complex civil investigative demands, conducting Examinations Under Oath, taking depositions, motions practice, and participating in trial. Additionally, I was the lead attorney in a healthcare fraud investigation against an international pharmaceutical company resulting in a $19.9 million settlement.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

My highest priority is ensuring that every matter appealed is timely, thoroughly, and fairly decided. To accomplish this, it is paramount to have experienced criminal and civil attorneys on the bench since the docket of the Third Court of Appeals is divided between criminal and civil law. I would bring this much-needed experience to the Court. I will apply the law fairly and impartially to all citizens regardless of race, color or creed, and my decisions will be guided by controlling legal authority and I will not legislate from the bench.

In times like these, we need judges who are bold enough to apply the Constitution and laws as written, but who are also humble enough to understand their role in the legal system. Judges shouldn’t make policy; they should enforce laws. Texas is the greatest state in the union. Through adherence to the Constitution and to the laws of this great state, I intend to help keep it that way.
