Governor Greg Abbott will appoint Jeff Alley as Chief Justice of the Eighth Court of Appeals today for a term set to expire on December 31, 2024, or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified Jeff Alley of El Paso is an attorney at James F. Scherr PC. Previously, he served on the Eighth Court of Appeals from October 2019 through December 2022, serving as Chief Justice from October 2019 until December 2020. Additionally, he served as the staff attorney to former Chief Justice Ann McClure of the Eighth Court of Appeals and was in private practice for 30 years. He is board certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, member and former board member of the El Paso Bar Association, and a former member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and the American Board of Trial Advocates. AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Dale Rabe, Jr. to the 100th Judicial District Court in Carson, Childress, Collingsworth, Donley, and Hall counties for a term set to expire on December 31, 2024, or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified. Dale Rabe, Jr. of Childress is a solo practice attorney. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, member and former president of the 100th Judicial District Bar Association, and former member of the 46th Judicial District Bar Association. He has served on the boards for the Childress County Hospital District and the Childress Municipal Development District. Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Cliff Harbin to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct for a term set to expire on November 19, 2023. The Commission regulates the conduct of the state judiciary, including the power to recommend for retirement, censure, suspension, or removal of a judge from office. Cliff Harbin of Montgomery retired after 34 years with the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. He has 38 years of professional experience in both institutional and community-based corrections, including management of domestic violence, gang offender, substance abuse treatment aftercare, sex offender, and victim assistance programs. For the past 21 years, he has served in a managerial role supervising and training professional staff at the largest community supervision and corrections department in Texas. He is president of the Association for the Jacob Shannon Evergreen Cemetery, a Texas historical landmark.
