JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

"Valuable experience only comes from actual participation. My first-hand experience inside a courtroom makes me the best choice. I didn’t just read about trials and wrongful convictions in briefs and transcripts. I lived them. I firmly believe that judges should not to legislate from the bench where the law is black and white. But where discretion lies - in those gray areas of our law where justice lives or dies - I’ve got a record of practicing and interpreting the law so that no question ever lingers about the veracity of a person’s conviction or the fairness of their punishment."

Serve people, not positions. Adhere to and defend the rule of law. Interpret text as it is written, not how it could have been written. Exercise judicial restraint in all decisions, especially the biggest ones. Listen and consider opposing points of view. Change your mind if you are wrong. Craft thoughtful, well-reasoned, and fair opinions. Write clearly and plainly. And always do the right thing.
