Shane, like his father and both of his grandfathers, recognized the importance of service to our nation. After becoming a lawyer, he joined the United States Air Force. He is currently a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserves, working as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate General. In that capacity, Shane serves as a military prosecutor in court martial proceedings and as a legal advisor to commanders. He also provides legal assistance to military, civilian, dependent, and retiree personnel from all branches of service.

Shane also has a law practice with his wife, Kim, where he represents landowners and businesses in the appellate courts. He has represented clients in direct appeals, interlocutory appeals, and original proceedings. Shane has argued multiple appeals and successfully assisted his firm’s clients in resolving their cases without the need for litigation. Before Shane opened his law firm, he worked for 10 years as a Staff Attorney for the Chief Justice of the 4th Court of Appeals (the Court to which he is currently seeking election). As a Staff Attorney, Shane participated in the drafting of more than 300 legal opinions and memoranda for the 4th Court of Appeals. His appellate experience there involved a wide range of legal issues, including governmental immunity, personal injury, medical malpractice, insurance defense, commercial litigation, probate, family law, and criminal law. While serving at the 4th Court of Appeals, Shane also worked as an Adjunct Professor for Saint Mary’s University School of Law in the capacity of Moot Court Advocacy Coach.

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY

I am a small business owner, military officer, and most importantly, a husband and father to two young children. I have over 15 years of appellate law experience, which includes working in private practice and at the 4th Court of Appeals for 10 of those years. I believe a judge’s role is to be faithful to the Constitution and the laws of Texas and should apply the law as written – not create law from the bench. It is my opinion that judges who attempt to legislate from the bench waste the time and resources of the litigants and undermine the public’s confidence in the rest of our judiciary. If elected, I pledge to work hard to apply the law as written to all cases coming before me and to reach the result that the law demands.

I know that, on day one in office, I can hit the ground running given my prior experience at the 4th Court. I respectfully ask for your vote and support in the upcoming 2018 election.
